If You’re Hairy and You Know It….

W

ith summer trying to squeeze into the scene a bit early, it’s time to start thinking about hair removal.  Shorts, short skirts, swimsuits, (and perhaps the occasional jaunt to a nude beach for the brave,) means tactics to de-fuzz ourselves.

The most common ways and where to get this done quickly and (almost) painlessly aren’t rocket science.  Here we go…

Shaving (Duh).  This is the simplest, cheapest, and can be done anywhere, anytime as long as running water is present.  Downside?  Accidentally cutting yourself, razors dull quickly, and hair grows back pretty darn fast. Where to find the materials: Walgreens, Wal-Mart, you get the idea.

Laser Hair Removal.  This is the remover of champions, though you have to be ready for a fairly sizable financial commitment and already have dark roots.  If your hair is too fair, this treatment won’t work.  Also, if you’re planning on having a baby, going on/coming off birth control, or anything else that might create a shift in your hormones, this can affect the outcome of your treatments. (Trust me on this one.) Hair you had removed might suddenly begin to grow back under these conditions, so be forewarned that it IS a possibility.  The upside is that you will be smooth, smooth, smooth and won’t have to shave again.  Talk about money saved on razors, shave cream, and most importantly, your time! Ideal Image, Sona MedSpa, Evanesque are all great local spots to try.

Waxing.  This works well if you want longer results than shaving, but aren’t a good candidate for laser hair removal.  Over time, waxing will producer finer, thinner hair growth, which is a bonus.  The downside is that it can be a little painful and messy. In town, The Pretty Kitty, Bliss Spa, and Zaibees will wax you clean anywhere you grow hair.

DIY?  For the brave, doing it yourself is a great way to save money on hair removal.  However, most people aren’t adept at reaching the most intimate places or brave enough to pull off a wax strip with reckless abandon.  Companies like No!No! and Tria have easier at home options that still aren’t cheap, but may be just as effective as many salon laser treatments and you can use them whenever it is convenient for you.

Don’t let those prickly hairs get between you and those shorts at J. Crew….the time to act is now!
