How To Wear Yellow in the Wintertime

I

t’s all things sunny and bright, and yet we seem to reserve it mainly for the spring and summer, instead of when we need it most: the dreary wintertime.  Yellow can lift your spirits just by looking at it, so why not find a way to wear it during the coldest months of the year?

Here are a few tips when venturing into sunshine territory with your wardrobe:

  • Yellow looks best in the winter with darker color combinations.  Yellow looks stunning with navy, darker neutrals, and black (if it’s the right shade of yellow-you don’t want to be a bumble bee).  Dark denim and yellow are smashing together, and a yellow skirt or dress are an unexpected pop of color this time of year.
  • Avoid yellow tights unless you want your legs to look jaundiced.  Some people can pull this look off, but not many.
  • Yellow accessories are a great way to get noticed. I saw a shocking yellow scarf at Forever 21 yesterday, and it took everything in me not to buy it and wear it with my distressed denim shirt.  Yellow earrings and necklaces add a fun touch to any outfit, and yellow Hunter boots are worth the investment. A yellow coat may be a bit much for most, but it can be a fun sussie to treat yourself to.

Now that you have a few guidelines to follow, how about some pics for inspiration?
