Sporty Style

A

fter a fun Labor Day weekend in Flushing Meadows at the US Open, I came home with a new perspective on dressing stylishly for sporting events.  Football season is upon us and hockey season starts soon after, but as we brave the crowds and cheer on our favorite teams we can still have signature style. Anna Wintour wouldn’t expect anything less.

One thing I noticed in New York is that it doesn’t matter if it’s hot, muggy, or just plain uncomfortable to be wearing something stylish-style MATTERS.  When it comes to tennis and golf, it’s better to err on the side of conservative chic and stick to brands that fit the bill-Polo, Lacoste, and Sperry Topsiders for your manicured toes. (Incidentally, there is a new Sperry store at Northpark.) When it comes to football, baseball, and hockey, you may be a bit more creative with your style.  The TCU Bookstore offers a variety of jewel encrusted dresses and halter tops for women sporting the Horned Frog logo, and the Dallas Cowboys Pro Shop also sells cutting edge fashion pieces that promote your team (including faux Uggs with the famous star on them!) If you prefer not to rock the actual team name or logo, try to incorporate at least one of the team colors in your outfit, and don’t be afraid to destroy your blow-out with a baseball cap.  The AAC might not be the catwalk, but it can definitely be another platform to show team loyalty and personal savoir-faire.
