Earth Day Finds: The YogoMat

A

fter scouring the web for eco-friendly fashion or ventures to get me in the Earth Day mood, I came across this project on Kickstarter that would make Mother Nature proud. The YogoMat is a yoga mat that folds up small enough to comfortably take anywhere, is easy to clean, and, best of all, is 100% biodegradable and recyclable.

Anything that makes it easier to get your Namaste on is fine in my book, but what makes this eco-friendly project all the more endearing is the story behind it. Ryon Lane was an avid runner until a serious diving accident left him with a broken neck and the heartbreaking news that he may never run again. After he being freed from his neck brace and several months of physical therapy, Ryon discovered to yoga, which helped him grow stronger and more flexible until he was eventually able to run again.

His desire to run to the yoga studio was hindered by his bulky yoga mat. After searching for a lightweight mat that wouldn’t weigh him down on his run or unfold on the journey, he realized that such a thing did not exist, which led to the YogoMat.

Honestly, I can’t believe this hasn’t been invented until now. Imagine having a yoga mat right at your fingertips when you leave work or class for the day. The 100% biodegradable, sustainably-harvested mat can fold up like a newspaper and only weighs two pounds.

They’ve already reached their initial fundraising goal, but they’ve continued to up the ante until funding closes on Monday, May 20 at 5:40 EDT. What better way to honor Earth Day than by supporting an eco-friendly project that supports the earthiest exercise of all? Follow the link to YogoMat’s Kickstarter page to get behind this green, revolutionary idea.
